The third project represented by CUBE in the Cascade Funding Programme of the European initiative Digital On Stage is SPIN, created by Noemi Vasileiadou and Trochies.
SPIN is a dystopian hybrid performance set in a world where table tennis is scientifically reframed as the ultimate, non-violent concentration activity—promised to maintain focus and counter modern distraction. It saturates the media, becomes embedded in every public and private space, and is eventually enforced by law as a universal daily routine. Struggling to communicate with people ecstatically chasing the tiny white ball, P. begins to wonder: how do you say no to something that is “for your own good”? Through AR gameplay overlays, AI-driven guidance, and reactive sound and visuals, SPIN immerses the audience in a playful allegory that mirrors the protagonist’s struggle between autonomy and surveillance—blurring sport, spectacle, and social control.
