Historian Milovan Pisarri, in one of the interviews conducted within the European project Romdiem, highlights that the memory of Samudaripen in Serbia remains fragile and largely absent from education, universities, and public discourse.
He points to three lasting consequences: destroyed communities, historical silence, and ongoing discrimination. After the war, Roma were excluded from justice processes, reparations, and official remembrance—further deepening the erasure of their trauma.
Pisarri calls for cooperation between Roma communities, researchers, and institutions, proposing a documentation and education center in Belgrade and a dedicated memorial space at Topovske Šupe.
Reviving memory, he emphasizes, means confronting anti-Romani sentiment and highlighting Roma cultural heritage.
