Roma Holocaust Memorial Day

Roma Holocaust Memorial Day – August 2nd

Today, we honor the memory of the victims of the Roma Holocaust — a tragic and often overlooked chapter of European history. On the night of August 2nd, 1944, nearly 3,000 Roma people, mostly women, children, and the elderly, were murdered in the so-called “Gypsy Family Camp” at Auschwitz-Birkenau. This day stands as a solemn reminder of the need to preserve historical memory and to fight against all forms of racism and discrimination.

In this spirit, the European project RomDiem works to strengthen the participation of Roma communities in public life through digital empowerment and civic education. By providing inclusive learning tools and capacity-building actions, RomDiem contributes to combating stereotypes and building a more equitable society.

Memory is not just about the past — it is our collective responsibility.
